“Watchdog urges SNP to stop using ‘inflated’ offshore wind power statistic.”
People need to wake up to the fact that the dash for onshore wind power a politically and financially fuelled race; and it isn’t based on facts and figures.
This article from the telegraph online demonstrates once again how political leaders are using “climate fear” to further their own political agendas.
With yet another photo shoot in front of a windfarm in what appears to be the middle of nowhere, apparently having no negative effects on local communities, Nicola Sturgeon quietly changed her tune.
After having claimed for years that Scotland has a quarter of the offshore [Please note … “OFFSHORE”] wind resource potential in Europe; Ms Sturgeon quietly owned up to the fact that the 25 per cent figure was “out of date” and “no longer appropriate”, adding: “The fact of the matter is that we have massive renewables potential.” That backdown almost slipped under the radar!!
It’s unbelievable how disengenuous this is. The Scottish establishment has been feeding this tripe to a sanguine public for years, in an effort to overplay Scotland’s ability to go it alone.
We all know it’s windy up here, but to go from, “It’s really windy” to “Scotland can be self sufficient in renewables” and then onto “Scotland can export renewable energy to the rest of Europe”, is a step too far. But it has served the Political agenda well.
Read the article and take it on board. The transition to renewables is a great idea, but we need to be realistic about it and do it for the right reasons, at the right time and at the right speed; not to satisfy and drive political ideology at the expense of economic and social damage.
