{"id":79,"date":"2022-09-26T16:00:01","date_gmt":"2022-09-26T16:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hilloffare.org\/?p=79"},"modified":"2022-10-14T16:34:11","modified_gmt":"2022-10-14T16:34:11","slug":"in-the-news-september-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hilloffare.org\/index.php\/2022\/09\/26\/in-the-news-september-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans for giant 820ft-tall wind farm in Aberdeenshire spark controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Article repeated from &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energyvoice.com\/renewables-energy-transition\/441094\/res-sparks-controversy-with-820ft-turbines-in-aberdeenshire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Energy Voice Article 15\/9\/2022<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Controversy has been sparked over plans to build one of the tallest&nbsp;onshore wind farms&nbsp;in the UK, less than four miles from Banchory in Aberdeenshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renewables developer RES is behind the 17-turbine development, each standing 820 feet tall and \u201ctheoretically visible\u201d with viewpoints from 20 miles away in all directions; from Moray to Angus, according to planning documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hill of Fare wind farm has sparked outcry from campaigners opposing the development, while local residents are being urged to give their views in an upcoming consultation.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"230\" height=\"409\" src=\"https:\/\/hilloffare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-80\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hilloffare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image-5.jpeg 230w, https:\/\/hilloffare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image-5-169x300.jpeg 169w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Its height will rival an extension to the Lethans Wind Farm planned for New Cumnock in East Ayrshire, billed as the \u201ctallest on-land wind farm in the world\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hill of Fare will stand around 30ft short of those turbines, but still nearly twice the height of the Glasgow Tower, Scotland\u2019s tallest building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The site, being developed in partnership with Dunecht Estates, would have an expected generating capacity of around 122 megawatts if approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to RES, it will produce enough electricity to power 90,000 homes and create a reduction in carbon emissions of approximately 142,000 tonnes each year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Article repeated from &#8211; Energy Voice Article 15\/9\/2022 Controversy has been sparked over plans to build one of the tallest&nbsp;onshore wind farms&nbsp;in the UK, less [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":109,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,4],"tags":[14],"class_list":["post-79","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-visual-impact","tag-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
